3rd Grade Kabbalat Tanakhim

At their recent Kabbalat Tanakhim ceremonies, third grade students each received their own tanakh - the Hebrew Bible - after a meaningful song and dance performance. Students have been studying the tanakh during their sessions with Rabbi Chaim and now have their own special copy from which they will continue their studies.

During the ceremony, Rabbi Chaim asked the students to open their new Tanakhim to Exodus 24:12. They read aloud how God told Moses to go up on the mountain - and be there. Those three words at the end, while perhaps seeming extraneous, teach us to always be present - in our studies, in our encounters with people, and indeed, in all that we do.

Perelman Jewish Day School is committed to being a place of serious, creative learning of Jewish texts. Through the generosity of the Kriger Book Fund, a different Jewish book is given to students each year, beginning in Gan, assuring that by the time they graduate, students will own a substantial Jewish library.
