Fourth grade students were gifted a construction company and were given the creative task of giving it a name, a motto and a logo. They were then told that their construction company was hired to build a new home for $100,000.00.
Students practiced their math skills, subtracting to the one hundred thousandths place as they calculated and explored the cost of flooring, bedrooms, bathrooms, bonus room and extra features. Once they chose all of their features, they added everything together to ensure they stayed under their $100,000.00 budget.
Students then utilized their geometry skills, using rulers to sketch the floor plan of their new home, finding the quadrants of the house as well as the area and perimeter of each room.
Next stop, the Landau Makerspace! Here, students will work together, using recycled materials, to create architectural renderings of their dream house.
