Students in Grades 3-5 recently came together at the Stern Center to participate in Project VOICE, a whole new way for students to experience language and develop creative expression. Project VOICE uses spoken word poetry to improve literacy and encourage empathy and creative collaboration in classrooms and communities around the world. Both accessible and innovative, Project VOICE inspires and encourages students to create their own work.
This week’s program began with a performance of original poems on a variety of themes by Project VOICE educators, followed by a series of workshops led by these extraordinarily talented performers/educators. Students had the opportunity to share their own poems at poetry Cafes held throughout the school and learned new techniques for expression through the art of spoken word poetry.
