3rd Graders Celebrate Kabbalat Tanakhim

The enthusiasm of our 3rd Grade students and their families was loud and clear as they gathered for Kabbalat Tanakhim - the presentation of their Hebrew Bibles (a gift from the Kriger Book Fund). Tapping into their artistic sides with both songs and dances, they celebrated their study of Lekh Lekha, the Torah portion that begins by presenting the command to Avram to go forth from his homeland and God's promise to him. The event concluded with families engaging in a “torn paper midrash” exercise where they used the medium of collage to interpret a biblical scene from this portion. Lekh Lekha in particular and the study of Torah in general involves a journey; it is our wish that the students' journey into and throughout Jewish adulthood will be full of meaning and pride.
