Second Grade Celebrates Kabbalat Siddurim

Perelman Jewish Day School is committed to being a place of serious, creative learning of Jewish texts. Through the generosity of the Kriger Book Fund, a different Jewish book is given to students each year, beginning in Gan, assuring that by the time they graduate, students will own a substantial Jewish library.

At their recent Kabbalat Siddurim ceremonies, second grade students received their first siddur (prayer book) after their terrific presentation of song and dance, connected to the theme of the day. They demonstrated their mastery of fundamental t’filot (prayers) as they stood alongside their families, praying as a community.

Head of School Mitchell Daar emphasized that the siddur is the text that will accompany students throughout their years at Perelman and through their adult lives. Our hope is that the students will follow in their ancestors’ footsteps and take their place as leaders.

In preparation for the day, each student’s family had the opportunity to pour their love and creative energy into a custom-designed blessing written for their child — a blessing that is now on the final page of the siddur to forever mark this milestone. Each second grader also wrote about their favorite prayer and why.
