1st Graders Problem Solve with Marble Run Creations

Our first grade students have been building their own marble runs! Students began by building plastic marble runs and train track marble runs. Then, they used the engineering design process to design and create their own marble run on a plate with five obstacles! As they worked on their creations, they needed to debug each time their obstacle didn't work or the marble got stuck. Students also learned about working in steps, using transition words that they have been learning in class. Students practiced using words such as “first” and “next” to describe the course of their marble runs. Their final marble run designs and projects were all unique and highlighted innovation in action!
