Stern Center fifth graders are participating in the Global Read Aloud project, a program that builds connections between students world-wide, encouraging cross-cultural learning, sharing, and collaborating.
Students are reading Front Desk, a 2020 Reading Olympics book selection, about a 10-year-old Chinese-American immigrant. Our fifth graders have enjoyed reading the book together and watching author videos in addition to participating in numerous activities such as: joining Kahoot challenges, mystery Skyping with a class from Texas, writing postcards to 37 schools in the US and Canada, and tweeting their reflections (and getting retweeted by the author of the book, Kelly Yang)!
The Global Read Aloud project builds reading skills and excitement while strengthening classroom community and global awareness – teaching students to “love your neighbors as yourself” (V’ahavtahl’reiechakamocha). The thread of Jewish values weaves itself through everything we do!
