First Graders Study Metamorphosis Cycle

As part of a unit of study that integrates science, nonfiction reading and language arts, first graders studied insects. They explored insect types, life cycles and habitats, observing the daily changes the lady butterflies and red fire ants go through during their metamorphosis cycle. Students excitedly took photographs, wrote journals about their discoveries and even created a time lapse with their findings. They concluded their animal life cycle unit with a trip to the zoo.
