Robotics is so Much Fun!
Our 5th graders recently participated in a robotics challenge. Working in teams, they collaborated to build a robot that could move forward, pick up a cup, turn, and place the first cup into a second one. The exercise provided students with a new way to apply science, math, and team-building strategies, as they persevered with their designs, finding modifications as they attempted to program their robots. Some teams quickly adjusted to setbacks while others really had to work at it - going though several iterations until they arrived at a solution. Those groups that experienced the most obstacles ultimately came out with the strongest designs. The students learned to approach problems from all sides – by thinking imaginatively and trying fearlessly.
