5th Grade Constitutional Authors

During an integrated social studies and writing project, fifth grade students wrote their own informational books about a topic related to the Constitution. Following their Constitution unit and their trip to the National Constitution Center last month, students selected a topic of interest into which they delved more deeply.

Students explored Constitutional topics such as What is an amendment? How does a person run for president? and How did women get the right to vote? as they wrote their informational pieces, which they then published for their families and peers to read. Students are learning to understand and contextualize components of the Constitution as they uncover what it means to be active citizens.
