Music

The language of life

At Perelman, music is infused into the student experience in many ways, helping children hear the world with deeper meaning and understanding.

General music

In lower school, students enjoy weekly classes, where they play instruments, sing and participate in creative movement. They learn to appreciate music through note reading, rhythm training, history and multicultural connection. Our integrated curriculum pulls themes and projects through to other classes in both general and Jewish studies.

Additional features of the program, varying by Center, include musical composition, songwriting, keyboard experience, recorder performance, international drum circles and musical puppet theatre.

The musical experience is further enriched by clubs, such as our renowned lower school junior/senior choir and opera. Students also perform at seasonal concerts, ensembles, music cafés and holiday programs throughout the year.

Afterschool Music Program

A love for music doesn’t stop when the last bell rings. We proudly offer one of the area’s finest afterschool music programs, where students excel in a caring, nurturing environment, while developing their mathematical, creative thinking and self-discipline skills. This outstanding program is offered to both lower and middle school students.

Lessons are offered in various instruments including:

Instruction is available either privately (1/2 hour or 45 minute lessons) or semi-privately (small groups).

Music theory and solfège

Music theory provides children with a solid foundation of music. During this weekly ½ hour class, children learn to read and understand musical notation as well as study music history and rhythm.

Ensemble

These hour-long lessons include both classical orchestra and rock band. Students collaborate and play together, learning teamwork and cooperation along with peers who are excited about music.

Supervision between lessons

Instructors are available until 6 p.m. to assist students with homework if needed. There is no extra charge for this supervision. Please pack your child a snack for this time.
