Stern Center - PJDS
Perelman Jewish Day School serves Jewish students in the elementary and middle school grades at three centers: the Stern Center in Wynnewood, the Forman Center in Melrose Park, and at the Robert Saligman Middle School in Melrose Park. PJDS was founded in 1956 as Solomon Schechter Day School of Philadelphia. The school continues as Raymond and Ruth Perelman Jewish Day School in recognition of the generosity of the Perelman family.

Through its admission and tuition assistance policies, the school encourages a diversity of social and religious attitudes and practices. PJDS welcomes a broad spectrum of families and respects the level of observance by its Orthodox, Reform, Reconstructionist, and unaffiliated families. While all of the students at PJDS are Jewish, there is a diversity among the student population in areas of race, religious practice, and socio-economics. Perelman Jewish Day School believes that this diversity strengthens the school and gives added dimension to the curriculum.

Perelman Jewish Day School provides students with a values-based, Jewish education within the context of a rigorous academic program. The school offers a comprehensive, integrated Jewish and General Studies curriculum where girls and boys have equal access to all programs.

PJDS creates an environment where students can experience emotional and social growth, develop independent learning skills, learn how to solve problems and think creatively, divergently, and critically. Perelman's goal is to blend Jewish ideals and practice with the American democratic heritage, teaching children how the secular and religious realms enrich each other and enhance lives.

PJDS stresses the instruction and understanding of ethics, morals and values through an intensive exposure to classical Jewish texts. An understanding of Jewish civilization and the pivotal role of the State of Israel in Jewish life as well as the acquisition of Hebrew language skills are fundamental elements of the curriculum. PJDS is committed to creating an environment filled with derekh eretz , respect for each other and mutual consideration.

Enrichment in both scholastic and extra-curricular areas enhances the curriculum. The school has a strong sports program, updated technology in each classroom, well-stocked libraries, visual/performing arts programs, resources for special needs, and counseling services.

Perelman Jewish Day School offers an outstanding child-centered, responsive program. The school encourages the growth and development of each child as an individual and as a member of the greater community. The school recognizes that education does not begin and end at the school doors, but reaches out to include the family in all of its activities.

The Pennsylvania Association of Private Academic Schools (PAPAS) and Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools (PAIS) accredit Perelman Jewish Day School.
